The Brotherhood is Tejas Desai's first novel. Set in contemporary New York City, this hypnotic thriller moves at a breathtaking pace and keeps you guessing until the very end.
Niral Solanke, a failed writer, has become a sleazy private investigator who tails wealthy adulterers. But when his childhood friend Priya commits suicide, her brother Amrat believes it could be murder—perpetrated by wealthy financier Vishal Patel.
As Niral investigates, he realizes that nothing is what it seems, as he is confronted by betrayal, religious hypocrisy, sexual deviancy and much more, until shocking revelations threaten his core beliefs—and his very existence.
Informative as well as entertaining, the book includes a Glossary of Hindu Terms. It is the first part of The Brotherhood Trilogy.
The Brotherhood The Brotherhood Chronicle Book 1 eBook Tejas Desai
This book is a very enjoyable read. It has well drawn and interesting characters and a fast paced plot that will keep you guessing. I loved the dialogue which was real and well crafted. The depth of the book comes in its themes which is deeply rooted in religion and politics. As other have commented, there is no clear line between the "Good guys" and the "bad guys" as each character has her or her own flaws which are explored. The book is a quick read and it will leave you wanting to read more about the characters and from this writer. Thankfully it's number one of a trilogy!! :)Product details

The Brotherhood The Brotherhood Chronicle Book 1 eBook Tejas Desai Reviews
Great plot that takes place in Long Island City, Queens! This novel takes full advantage of the great setting. Great use of three dimensional multi-cultural characters but it's extremely suspenseful! Should NOT be read if you have an existing heart condition ;0)
I enjoyed The Brotherhood, by Tejas Desai. I have two problems with the book and one is that I did not know that there was a glossary of terms at the end of the book and the other was that the names of many of the characters are Indian and I had some trouble keeping the characters in order. Both problems, I feel, are my fault and not the stories.
The story starts with a death of a young college student by the name of Priya. She leaves the story right away in a suicide, or is it a murder? That is where the story starts and it runs through the streets of Queens, NY and Manhattan. You will be taken into the homes of people who are drawn back into Hinduism, wannabee, religious types, Wall Street money people as well as hookers who are college students and many, many, people who are good friends to the main character, Niral. He tries to do the right thing and has to figure out not only who is good and bad but also who he can/should trust in his journey to uncover what really happened the night Priya died.
This book was suggessted to me by a friend. I read it and found it quite interesting. It has everything in this book. Drama, emotion, ideology, murder, love. I highly recomend this book.
I picked up this book while I was stumbling through trying to find something interesting to read. One of the first things that stood out to me was the effective method of storytelling. The story progresses, as most thrillers do, from a slowish introduction to a fiery climax, managing to keep our attention throughout. All the characters are uniquely written and play a vital role in the plot of the book. In short, The Brotherhood is a book that effectively keeps our attention with dynamic storytelling.Definitely looking forward to cracking open the next book in the trilogy.
Really enjoyed this book. I liked the location of Queens and the character of Niral. It kept you reading with various twists and turns. And I loved the ending.
cool read
This is Tejas's Freshman book and I really enjoyed it. I liked that the characters were so fallible, even the detective himself. There weren't just "good guys" and "bad guys." This is a mystery but that almost takes a back seat to issues like suicide, religion, culture, and fitting in. It is a local book about Queens which the author is familiar with. The Brotherhood is a fast paced read which keeps the reader interested and could be good for reluctant readers. I'm looking forward to the upcoming books in this series.
